In May of 2006, Lauren Alicia de Remer received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a creative writing emphasis from Whittier College in southern California. Having completed editorial internships prior to graduation, her writing was featured in Foam, Riviera and Scuba Diving Magazine (among others). In the years following, she spent time working in the non-profit sector at Tompkins Conservation which allowed her the opportunity to work alongside renowned philanthropists from all over the world. Through the professional relationships she made and inner passion she found for protecting the environment, Lauren set forth on a new path towards responsible adventure travel and low-impact outdoor recreation.

She spent five years working in sales & marketing at O.A.R.S. whitewater rafting and three in client services at Mountain Travel Sobek managing international trip packages for clients such as National Geographic Adventures and New York Times Journeys. Lauren repeatedly sought to involve herself in mission-driven organizations that value micro finance, climate change and the role micro finance can play in empowering local communities.

In 2018, Lauren unfortunately lost both her 11-yr old cousin and boyfriend to brain cancers. Following such traumatic events, she felt a huge sense of responsibility to shift gears. She became an Integrated Project Manager at healthcare marketing & communications agency, Real Chemistry (formerly W2O Group), received Oncology Patient Navigation training from the George Washington Cancer Center, ran logistics for Milton Marks Family Camp and is a Wilderness First Responder through the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). Lauren is currently the Academic Program Manager at UCSF’s Weill Institute for Neurosciences, supporting the logistical aspects of various academic program activities, including award cycles, annual grant reporting processes and oversight of funded programs – including execution of academic symposia, seminars, and community-building activities for the neuroscience community. In addition to working full time at UCSF, de Remer is also the Founder & Executive Director of Tautira Foundation – a palliative care nonprofit for those impacted by cancer and terminal illness.

In her free time, she enjoys paddle boarding, surfing, hiking, rock climbing and traditional sailing. Lauren currently resides in Sausalito alongside her 13 year-old border collie, Buoy.
